A rehabilitation system designed to reintegrate drug users into society must operate with community participation and adhere strictly to Islamic principles, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated.
The narcotics epidemic remains the most deeply rooted and enduring crisis facing the nation, requiring the collective cooperation of the public to achieve a comprehensive resolution, President Muizzu observed during the third episode of the podcast ‘The Pulse’. Addressing the underlying factors of this crisis stands as the administration’s primary priority, the president maintained.
"This is not a challenge that can be resolved through superficial or piecemeal interventions," President Muizzu remarked. He asserted that eradicating the narcotics epidemic requires addressing root causes while concurrently halting the proliferation of these substances to shield the youth. A holistic approach constitutes the official policy of his administration, the president added.
Resolving this crisis necessitates the unified collaboration of society, encompassing families, civil society organisations, and state institutions, he underscored. The administration aims to rescue the youth currently ensnared in the crisis, ensuring those who recover are provided with the avenues to build dignified and honourable lives, the president explained.
The rehabilitation framework must provide a guarantee that affected youth will not revert to substance abuse upon their reintegration, the president declared. "It defies logic for a young person who successfully completes rehabilitation today to relapse into substance abuse," President Muizzu noted.
Because the nation stands firmly upon the noble religion of Islam, foundational principles must inherently be Islamic ones, he argued. The system must foster a love for religious values, instil a profound belief in faith, and cultivate a resolute determination to abandon destructive behaviours in accordance with Islamic tenets, the president concluded.
