Beijing meetings aim to boost Chinese tourist arrivals to Maldives

A high‑level Maldivian delegation is currently on a ten‑day official visit to Beijing to hold a series of key meetings with Chinese airlines, tour operators and marketing consultants in a bid to further increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting the island nation.
China is the largest source market for Maldives tourism, and the delegation—led by State Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Haris Mohamed and Visit Maldives Corporation Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree—sought to cement that position.
During the visit, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation organised a major networking event that gathered dozens of Chinese airline representatives, travel agencies and tourism stakeholders. At the event, State Minister Haris highlighted the diverse opportunities the Maldives offers—from luxury resorts and boutique guesthouses to diving, wellness, cultural and family‑friendly experiences. The meeting reinforced existing partnerships and opened new avenues for cooperation between Maldivian tourism operators and the Chinese travel trade.
The delegation also met with Cross Horizons, a marketing and cultural exchange consultancy that specialises in connecting international destinations with the Chinese travel industry. Discussions focused on launching fresh promotional campaigns and expanding market outreach to raise the Maldives’ profile among Chinese travelers, as well as strengthening ties with travel businesses across China.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, 168,677 Chinese tourists have already visited the Maldives so far this year, a 19.8 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
