Free trade agreement with China to be signed on June

Economic Minister Muhammad Saeed have said that the Maldives-China free trade agreement will be signed in June 2017.
The minister said that the final meeting to discuss about the agreement will be held in March.
Maldives is also talking with Hong Kong to establish a similar free trade agreement. He said that the government has invited USA, UK and Japan to sign similar agreements.
These countries purchase fish from Maldives in large quantities even now. If such an agreement is signed there will be no duty imposed on Maldivian fish products and hence it will be beneficial for the fisheries industry of Maldives.
