The Minister of Tourism، Ahmed Adeeb had urged the authorities to pace up the trial of the former President and opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed.
Minister Adeeb made his urge during the vehicle rally organized by the pro-government parties، Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) on the streets of capital Male’، today.
Speaking in the rally، Minister Adeeb stated the country is currently seeing the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ‘trying to torch buildings and occupy the airport’.
“We do not care if they come on to the streets and issue ‘warnings’. If they want to do something، then they should do it. But we will not allow them torching down the country،” Adeeb said.
He further said that although the opposition held several demonstrations، the Government had not received any foreign influence yet.
Minister Adeeb also compared the former President Mohamed Nasheed with the African terror group، Boko Haram. “Kidnapping a judge is an act of terrorism. We will not intervene the justice system. We will remain within the boundaries of the law. But، we will not back down،” he added.
In addition، Minister Adeeb، who is also the deputy leader of the ruling party PPM، stated a warning that MDP should ‘go home’ and stop ‘angering them’، or else the outcome will ‘not be nice’. “We are with the youth. We will not go to jail for Nasheed،” he said.
The vehicle rally organized by the pro-government parties and the supporters reportedly concluded after Minister Adeeb’s speech.
Reportedly، around 1،500 participated on vehicles، along with cabinet ministers، parliament members، senior officials of the two parties، women and youth، in the vehicle rally of pro-government.
