Safa Shafeeq Steps into Role as President of MBC

Safa Shafeeq has been named President of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC), the regulatory body that oversees broadcasting services across the country. Her appointment was confirmed during a commission meeting on Wednesday. The MBC holds the responsibility of ensuring all broadcasting operations within the country adhere to governmental laws and regulations.
Shafeeq has been a member of the commission since September 2023. She holds a Master of Arts in Social Policy from the Maldives National University (MNU) and a Master of Communications from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) in Malaysia.
Shafeeq also brings extensive experience from her television career, which began in 2006, providing her with practical insights into the broadcasting industry. The position of president of the MBC became available following the conclusion of former President Mariam Waheeda's tenure.
The current lineup of the MBC comprises Vice President Mohamed Fazeen, along with members Aminath Sarahath Izzath, Mohamed Abdulla, Aminath Ameena, and Shifla Ibrahim. Izzath and Abdulla joined the commission as new members on 20 January.
