Former Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir has publicly endorsed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday night.
A video of Jabir, who is currently inactive in politics, confirming his support for President Muizzu and his attendance at the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) rally scheduled for Friday night.
In the video, Jabir is seen giving an interview in front of PNC’s party office. Noting he is closely monitoring the current administration’s efforts to develop the Maldivian nation, expressed confidence that President Muizzu’s development targets can be achieved with the speed projects are currently proceeding.
“I am closely monitoring the non-stop, tireless, first-class efforts by Maldives’ President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to develop the whole nation,” he said.
Jabir added that he will provide his cooperation for the President’s efforts to save Maldives from the verge of bankruptcy.
While Jabir has announced support for President Muizzu, it is unclear whether he has joined ruling PNC.
Jabir, who served as Kaashidhoo MP for two terms, was last a member of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Jabir was elected to the Parliament in 2019 parliamentary election as an independent candidate after he left MDP following his loss in the primary for the party’s Kaashidhoo seat ticket.
He rejoined MDP on July 25, 2023. He was expelled from the party in February of last year over repeated acts on his part against social norms, the use of disrespectful and abusive language, and disrupting public order. At the time he was expelled, he had already won the party’s primary for the Kaashidhoo seat in the 2024 parliamentary election.
Before he joined MDP, Jabir was serving as the leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), formed by former president Maumoon Abdulla Gayoom. However, the Elections Commission (EC) dissolved the party for failure to meet the legal requirement for the minimum number of members.
 
He rejoined MDP following efforts to form his own party, Green Party.
