To assure ex-President Mohamed Nasheed، who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison on terrorism charges، that the opposition parties are protesting against the atrocity، opposition MDP and Adhaalath Party have resolved to hold a protest near Asseyri Prison in Hinmafushi where Nasheed is being kept.
MDP had sent a letter to K. Hinmafushi Island Council، requesting for the football ground of the island.
The president of the island council، Shaan، confirmed the news، stating that the council had responded to the party، refusing to permit them to hold a gathering at the ground.
“They requested for the ground to hold an activity from 12pm to 12am tomorrow. We refused their request، as the Rehab Centre and the school are adjacent to the football ground،” Shaan said.
He further said that MDP requested for the park area، and the council had allowed the party to hold a peaceful gathering there، from 12pm to 12am tomorrow.
“The park is usually used as an area to hold numerous events،” Shan added.
