Mohamed Hussain Shareef: Boat blast was meant to kill president

Minister at the President’s Office Mohamed Hussain Shareef has claimed that the explosion on the presidential speedboat on 28 September 2015 was an attempt to kill President Abdulla Yameen.
Mohamed Hussain Shareef told The Guardian that the international team of investigators working on the case have said that they have enough evidence to believe that it was likely to have been an attempt on the president’s life.
He said that the government’s initial theory, that it could have been an engine failure, has been ruled out by investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“Authorities have arrested two people … in line of command who had access to the vessel,” Mohamed Hussain Shareef told The Guardian.
