When former President Nasheed said that he joined hands with former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, to topple the Maldives current government, the news became an instant hit on the international media. Everyday 2-3 media outlets report about it.
So far Maumoon has not said anything officially about the issue. Supporters of Maumoon are unsure of what to believe. They are waiting for him to say something. Some people believe that Maumoon and Nasheed are trying to form a coalition government. Also that the government will be headed by someone appointed by Maumoon.
While some people as such, others do not believe anything of this sort. Such people say that Maumoon will not make any deal with Nasheed, and that they will not believe unless Maumoon vonfirms it himself.
While this debate has been going on among the people, Maumoon tweeted today saying “ a truth will be true even if it is said once, and a lie will be a lie even if its repeated 1000 times”.
Previously Maumoon tweeted in a manner which can be interpreted in a way that says he never held discussions with Nasheed. Hence now Maumoon may be saying that he was telling the truth and that he does not need to repeat it again and again. Also that Nasheed is lying and no matter how much he repeats it, eben 1000 times it will be a lie.
However, a lot of political analysts believe that, the tweet by Maumoon is very vague and considering the current political situation in Maldives and he should be more clear and concise about his stance on the issue.
