The Election Commission (EC), on Wednesday, authorized the formation of Dhivehi Emmenge Party.
EC gave permission to Ali Shujau to complete the tasks necessary to form the party and ensure it is qualified for registration.
While a political party is registered once it attains 3,000 members, the party in question must gain 10,000 members to qualify for government funds.
EC also revealed its decision to officially register Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) as a political party. MRM, the third party founded by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, will be awarded the registration certificate on November 25.
