EC gives green light to form new party, 'Dharumavantha Party'

Elections Commission has on Monday given the go ahead to form a new political party under the name “Dharumavantha Party”.
The party is being formed by Ahmed Shareef Moosa who was a leading figure from the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) previously.
Moosa had submitted the form on the 11th of February after having spent a while out of the country, in London.
3,000 members are required to form a new political party and the commission gives a span of three months to gather the required quorum.
Eight political parties have been registered thus far. They are ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Adhaalath Party (AP), Jumhooree Party (JP), Maldives Third Way Democrats (MTD), Maldivian Labour and Social Democratic Party (Labour Party), Progressive Party of the Maldives, (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC).
Former President and rightful leader of the PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is also working to form a new political party under the name Maldives Reform Movement (MRM).
