The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has announced that its first election under the newly passed governing law will be held on July 26, 2025. The decision was made during the FAM Congress held at Meruma Hotel, where the revised legal framework was officially adopted.
Following the announcement, candidacy submissions are now open, with the deadline set for July 6.
Under the new regulations, candidates must obtain endorsements from at least five clubs, including a minimum of two clubs from the Premier Division, to qualify for the election.
To date, former FAM President Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) is the only individual to formally announce his candidacy. Thoriq had previously submitted his candidacy during two elections planned last year, both of which were postponed following FIFA directives related to governance issues within the association.
This upcoming election marks a significant milestone for FAM as it moves toward restoring structured leadership in compliance with both domestic laws and international football standards.
