UK tariff suspension signals recognition for Maldivian fisheries, says Fisheries Minister

The Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam has stated that the tariff suspension of Maldivian fish products by the UK is seen as clear recognition of the strength and sustainability of the Maldivian fisheries industry.
The Minister stated this in a post on X, addressing the United Kingdom’s (UK’s) decision to suspendtariffs on Maldivian tuna effective today.
Minister Ahmed Shiyam welcomed the landmark decision, noting that this was a great achievement for fishermen, their families, fish processors and entire island communities. This is also an important measure for sustainable fisheries, particularly those who champion one-by-one fishing as the industry gold standard. He added that Maldivian tuna feeds the world sustainably and responsibly.
The Fisheries Minister expressed his gratitude to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for his leadership and dedication to bring the Maldives’ fishing industry to new heights globally.
