Contract awarded to develop new market complex in Male’

The government has awarded the contract to develop a new market complex on the site where the current local market operates in Male’.
The agreement was awarded to TrustEng Maldives Pvt Ltd for USD 8,194,526.26. The project agreement was signed by Mohamed Shamil, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure and Mohamed Abdul Hadi, Managing Director of TrustEng Maldives.
The six-storey building will include a basement parking with over 400 motorcycle spaces, and 110 stainless steel fish market kiosks and vendor areas on the ground floor. The ground floor will be equipped with a 5-tonne ice plant to process ice for kiosks.
The first to third floors will be dedicated for vegetable market spaces, with 115 vendor kiosks on each floor. The terrace floor will house a food court. The total usable floor area of the complex is 95,032.32 square feet.
The complex is scheduled to be completed in one year and eight months.
The government plans to relocate multiple markets in the market area, including the tourist market, fish market, and local market, into the new complex. The project is part of the government’s efforts to redevelop the Male’ market area. The government expect the complex to modernise the area and improve convenience for vendors and customers once completed.
