Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu has revealed that the government has initiated work on the development of an additional school in Hulhumale Phase II.
The minister made the remarks during the inauguration of Shaheed Ali School in Hulhumale Phase II. During the ceremony, the minister remarked that the government has worked tirelessly over the past two years to strengthen the education sector. He noted that schools across the nation are included in the government’s development plan, irrespective of geographical location, signalling that both schools in the capital as well as outer islands will be developed. As such, the minister revealed that an additional school is being planned for development in Phase II.
The minister also emphasised the importance of self-learning, and said students should be taught and developed in such a manner.
“Students should have the independence with which they study. If they are taught the importance of responsible learning at a school age, they will go on to become responsible in their work environments aswell. And in their personal lives too, they will become individuals that are highly responsible”, the minister stated.
To conclude, the minister highlighted that over 2100 students are being taught at the newly inaugurated Shaheed Ali School. And that 77 percent of the students are originally from other atolls.
