MAROSHI, North Miladhunmadulu Atoll – President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to upgrade the Maroshi Health Centre to a 24-hour facility next year, a key promise made during a community meeting on his tour of the atoll.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assured residents of Maroshi that the island’s health centre will transition to providing round-the-clock medical services next year. The announcement came during a community meeting held Wednesday as part of the President’s ongoing tour of inhabited islands in North Miladhunmadulu Atoll.
The upgrade will be funded through the upcoming national budget, which will allocate resources to recruit the necessary medical staff. Once the new team is in place, the centre will begin operating without interruption, significantly boosting healthcare access for the local community.
Beyond healthcare, the President outlined a series of development initiatives for the island. He confirmed a major land reclamation project, pledging to reclaim 14.5 hectares to alleviate the island’s chronic land shortage.
“We are confident that all ongoing projects on this island will be successfully concluded, ensuring comprehensive development for Maroshi,” President Muizzu told attendees.
In a nationwide effort, all classrooms and staff rooms in Maroshi’s school will be air-conditioned by the start of the next academic year. The island will also see its school hall fitted with air conditioning and the construction of a new multipurpose hall under next year’s budget. The island’s road development project will be expanded to include additional lanes and routes to improve connectivity.
The meeting also provided a platform for residents to voice their concerns. One community member expressed that Maroshi has long felt neglected and urged the government to follow through on its promises without delay.
In response, the President directly addressed these concerns. “No community will be left behind in our development journey. My administration is fully committed to ensuring these projects are delivered on schedule,” he stated, reaffirming his government’s dedication to timely completion.
