Fisheries Minister Dr.Mohammed Shainee have said that the government has paid off the debt of MIFCO to fishermen and the government will retain it.
Speaking at the official ceremony held to mark the 36th fishermen’s day, Dr.Shainee said that all the problems faced by the fishermen will be solved by February according to MIFCO. He said that he will be closely monitoring the condition of fishermen. He said that officials of the ministry will inspect the boats as well. In addition, all financial matters will be closely monitored as well.
Dr.Shainee said that the fisheries industry of Maldives is being developed at a fast pace and the opposition will not see it. He said that the government is not worried about it. He said that the fishermen does not have to beg to repair buoys used in fishing. He said that within 30 days of damage, all buoys will be repaired.
Dr.Shainee said that the President wants all fishermen to earn a minimum of 10,000 Rufiyaa and the fishermen do not join the insurance scheme because they make more than that.
