Many supporters of the Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim have gathered on the streets of the capital Male’ following the reports that Maldives Police Service is trying to arrest him. The people are protesting against the government near local market.
Criminal Court denied the reports that the court issued a court warrant to arrest Gasim Ibrahim. However the court did not specify whether the court will issue such a warrant or not.
Protestors were calling the authorities not to arrest Gasim Ibrahim and to stop all forms of oppression.
A top member of the Jumhooree Party, Sobah Rasheed said that there are reports that the army are carrying light weapons near the harbor area. He said that the Police force near the protestors.
Although there are reports spread that the police are preparing to arrest Gasim Ibrahim it is not clear what the charges against him are.
In addition to this, MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed is currently being treated at ADK emergency ward.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed was arrested and taken to Dhoonidhoo detention facility on the charges of terrorism.
