"I request from Nasheed and Nazim to appeal their cases" – President Yameen

President of Maldives، Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called out to former President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed and former Defense Minister Colonel retired Mohamed Nazim to choose appeal route if they do not wish to settle for the charges pressed against them، since both men are serving time at jail.
President Yameen spoke regarding the issue at a ceremony held at Muliaage today for the signing of AA. Atoll Felidhoo council members to PPM.
“I encourage President Nasheed and party members to choose appealing his case، President of Maldives cannot do anything about former Defense Minister’s case so I advise for him to choose the same” President Yameen said.
In addition to this، President Yameen stated that the current government will not interfere with any court rulings and if the government is entitled as unjust and unethical for imposing punishment towards offenders، then the government will continue with taking necessary actions.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed has been sentenced to jail for a period of 13 years of finding guilty over the illegitimate kidnapping of Criminal Court Chief Justice Abdullah Mohamed، of which Nasheed was pressed with terrorism charge.
While Nasheed was sentenced by Criminal Court، his lawyer team had not appealed the case before the appealing date was due.
Colonel retired Mohamed Nazim has been jailed for 11 years on finding guilty for the illegal possession of dangerous weaponry from his apartment. Nazim’s lawyers have appealed the case to High Court.
