Presidential candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has urged one presidential candidate to withdraw his candidacy from the presidential election 2013.
Speaking at a press conference at Male’ City Council today, Nasheed said that it would be impossible to hold two rounds of the presidential election before 11 November, and proposed two ways to have an elected president before 11 November.
“I would like to propose a way, whereby we would have an elected president by 11 November. One way is that one candidate withdraws his candidacy for the sake of the country and the religion. Second way is that the Supreme Court reviews its decision and holds the second round on 9 November,” said Nasheed.
Nasheed said that out of the three candidates, the one who is most sincere to the country would withdraw his name; and that the candidate who is most sincere to the country is Gasim Ibrahim, presidential candidate of Jumhooree Party (JP).
Nasheed went on to say that he wants to ensure development and wealth for the country, and that he is always prepared to back down for the sake of the country, however, it was difficult to withdraw his name from this year’s election as it is clear from the result of the first round, that the people want an MDP government in the Maldives.
One candidate should withdraw from presidential race, says Nasheed
