The Maldives National Air Traffic Service (MNATS) held its Annual General Meeting today at Hulhule Island Hotel, with a strong focus on achieving financial independence, improving technical capacity, and maintaining uninterrupted air traffic services.
Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Chairman of MNATS and Managing Director and CEO of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), emphasized that MNATS was established to provide comprehensive air traffic services nationwide, with the key goal of ensuring operational continuity and national airspace safety.
Shareef stated that several initiatives are underway to increase MNATS’ revenue and build it into a self-sustaining and profitable entity. He assured that MACL, as the main shareholder, will continue to offer its full support toward this objective.
He highlighted technical manpower shortages as a critical industry challenge and reaffirmed MNATS’ commitment to train and certify air traffic controllers to meet future demands.
Urging employees to maintain professionalism and understand the weight of their responsibilities, Shareef noted that air traffic service is a vital national operation that must run without disruption.
MNATS was formally established on September 25, 2023, as a subsidiary of MACL, taking over the responsibilities of MACL’s former Air Traffic Management Department. It is tasked with providing air navigation services in compliance with the Chicago Convention, ensuring safety and efficiency in Maldivian airspace.
