Three new members have been appointed to the Maldives Media Council (MMC) following elections held on June 21 to fill three vacant seats—one public representative and two media representatives.
The elected members are:
- Muhammed Muzayyin Nazim from Dhawru newspaper
- Leevan Ahmed Naseer from Adhadhu newspaper
- Hawwa Wajuda, representing the public
The seats became vacant after three members elected in December 2023 resigned. The recent election followed two postponements of the voting date and a renewed call for candidate applications.
The Maldives Media Council is composed of 15 members, 8 from the media and 7 from the general public. Each member serves a two-year term, with the Council mandated to promote media freedom and uphold ethical journalism standards in the Maldives.
