Tourism occupancy rates in the Maldives have shown an upward trend in 2024, with an overall increase compared to the previous year. According to statistics released by the central bank, the national occupancy rate rose from 57.6 percent in 2023 to 59.1 percent by the end of 2024.
The most notable increase was seen in resorts, where the occupancy rate surged from 66.3 percent in 2023 to 71.2 percent last year. Similarly, safari vessels experienced a growth in occupancy, rising from 23.5 percent in 2023 to 26.3 percent by the end of 2024.
However, guesthouses and hotels saw a decline in their occupancy rates. The occupancy rate for guesthouses fell from 42.7 percent in 2023 to 35 percent in 2024.
The tourism market saw the introduction of over 1,500 new beds in 2024, bringing the total number of tourist facilities to 1,271, which includes 172 resorts, 929 guesthouses, 155 safari vessels, and 15 hotels.
The registered bed capacity in the Maldives for tourists is now 63,248 beds, and with the increase in facilities, the number of visitors to the Maldives has also risen. 2024 marked a record year for the Maldives, with over two million tourists having visited the country by the end of the year.
