Nasheed can only be transferred once waivers are signed by two parties: Home Minister

Home Minister Umar Naseer said Nasheed and his family had signed the required waivers when he was transferred to house arrest last year.
Speaking to Miadhu, Minister Umar said that the waivers were legal documents applicable to all inmates who are transferred to the care of another individual.
“The waiver for house arrest was co-signed by his wife Laila. When she went abroad, she had transferred guardianship to another family member. The process is very simple, easy,” he said.
Minister Umar said that this procedure was not a new policy, citing that this was in place even in the presidency of Nasheed. Nasheed’s family is yet to sign the waiver, noting concerns over the process.
“This is not a new procedure introduced by the Government. This has been in place even from Nasheed’s presidency. Stating concerns over this is to just create drama,” Minister Umar said.
