Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has arrived in New Delhi, India, for an official visit as president-elect of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Minister Shahid was welcomed at the New Delhi airport by Joint Secretary of UNP and Summits Prakash Gupta on July 21.
Official engagements began on July 22 with interviews with media outlets and journalists. In the interviews, Minister Shahid described his vision of the 76th session of the UNGA as the president-elect, as well as various aspects of the partnership between the Maldives and India. He also shared his vision of his UNGA presidency, dubbed the Presidency of Hope.
During the visit, Minister Shahid is scheduled to meet Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar during his visit. Further, he will be giving a public address on his vision for the UNGA at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).
India is the first country that Minister Shahid is visiting as the president-elect of the UNGA since his election on June 7.
