Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel has warned the leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) to leave the government coalition.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Dr. Jameel told MDA leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed that ‘the ship is sinking’ but that there was still time to salvage him and his business.
He warned Siyam not to be ‘fooled’ by President Abdulla Yameen and ruin his lifelong achievements, adding that the European Union and the international community will ensure a free and fair presidential election in Maldives.
My request to Sun Siyam: the ship is sinking; still have time to salvage yourself & business. Don't be fooled by YAG & ruin your lifelong achievemens. @EUCouncil & rest of the world ready to do all to ensure free/fair election for people of #Maldives. Hurry up & come to safety. pic.twitter.com/1SXbDhMxYu
While the coalition agreement between MDA and ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has expired, MDA remains undecided on renewing the partnership.
MDA’s council on Tuesday voted to handover leadership temporarily to Kendhikolhudhoo MP Ali Mauroof.
Siyam has not been seen in President Yameen’s campaign events and very few senior MDA members are seen participating in ruling party activities.
