The fourth China-South Asia Expo and Trade Fair in Kunming, capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, kick-started Sunday with over 100 Maldivians in attendance.
The Maldives is the “country of honour” for this year’s Kunming fair.
The fair’s inauguration ceremony on Sunday saw the opening of the Maldives’ pavilion. The pavilion was opened by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s special representative and Parliament Speaker, Abdulla Maseeh, and the vice premier of the State Council of China, Wang Yang.
The business forum of the fair commenced with a speech by the Maldives’ economic minister Mohamed Saeed.
In a statement released Sunday, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations (MMPRC) stated that over 100 Maldivians are participating in the six-day fair, including businessmen. As the country of honour, the Maldives’ delegation received an area of over 6000 square feet to showcase Maldivian products and cultural activities.
Meanwhile, MMPRC is participating in the newly introduced tourism promotion stand, which is represented by nine companies and seventeen representatives of the Maldives’ tourism sector.
The Maldives had also participated in the Kunming fair last year. This year’s fair features over 8000 stalls.
