President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has approved a bonus of USD 64,850 to the Maldives’ National Futsal Team and to the National Football Team in recognition of their victories in the SAFF Futsal Championship and last year’s South Asian Super Cup, respectively.
Maldives won the recent SAFF Futsal Championship by winning all the matches it played during the tournament, while the National Football Team won the South Asian Super Cup held in Sri Lanka in September last year.
In an interview with PSM News, Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu said the bonus will be distributed to the entire team, including all players and officials, through the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). The decision to grant such a bonus was announced by the President during a meeting with the national team at the Citron Restaurant on 2 October last year, the Minister said.
The government provides cash prizes to athletes who bring honour to the Maldives. The government is also working closely with associations to improve the quality of Maldivian players and increase their achievements in the international arena.
