President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided to award a bonus of MVR 1 million each to the Maldives national futsal team and the national football team.
Speaking to state media, Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu said the President made the decision to grant the bonus to all players and officials of both teams, including the squad that won the Super Cup held in the Maldives last year.
Rafiu said the decision was made during a meeting President Muizzu held with the national team at Citron Restaurant on October 2 last year. The funds will be disbursed to players through the Football Association of Maldives.
The Maldives national futsal team made history by winning the SAFF Futsal Championship, defeating Bhutan in the final and securing the country’s first-ever international futsal trophy with a 100 percent winning record, a significant milestone for a nation without an official indoor pitch.
Meanwhile, the Maldives national football team won the Super Cup in September last year, marking the country’s first major football trophy in many years.
