Two children under the age of 18 were injured in a motorcycle accident in Fuvahmulah on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the accident occurred around 13:30 hrs at Narugis Magu in Maalegan (South-East ward) when a speeding motorcycle collided with another motorcycle waiting to exit a street.
Police said the speeding vehicle was driven by a child under 18. Police also said two children sustained injuries in the accident and were treated at the hospital before being discharged.
The incident is under investigation.
CCTV footage of the accident has circulated on social media, showing one motorcycle waiting at the curb while another approaches at high speed, appearing to lose control before crashing into the stationary vehicle. The rider of the speeding motorcycle swerved left and disappeared from view.
Police have previously warned that underage driving continues to result in serious injuries and fatalities across the country.
