Case of man killed by speeding motor cycle will be investigated for police negligence: PIC

The Police Integrity Commission (PIC) said that they will investigate the case for police negligence, where a man had died when a police officer tried to stop a speeding motor cycle. A man sitting on a stationary cycle got killed when the speeding cycle crashed into it.
The man who died has been identified as Abdulla Gasim Ibrahim, 43, of Raifusge,Seenu Hithadhoo. His family has submitted the case to the PIC, and the Commission said that the Police had finished their investigation and had recently submitted the report to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG). PIC President Dr. Abdulla Waheed said that the police findings will greatly aid the Commission’s investigation.
“One of the things we have to determine during our investigation is if there had been any negligence on the part of the police investigation. We have to investigate this first before we can decide anything else on this matter. We have to investigate whether there was any negligence, during both the investigation and while the incident happened, on the part of the police,” said Waheed.
This case was submitted to the PIC by Gasim’s family members, who had accused the police of negligence. The police had forwarded the case of two individuals to the PG’s office on the 4th of this month in relation to the incident.
The two individuals are Ahmed Naadhee Saleem, 21, of Nooruhsabah, Alif Gemanafushi,and a 17 year old minor.
The Police said that the incident happened when two people were speeding to steal a motor cycle parked in front of H. Twilightreverie, after which they stole a Nokia mobile phone from a by standing foreigner and were driving at high speeds to flee from the police.
