Former Defense Minister to sign onto opposition Jumhooree Party

Former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim, who returned to Maldives from his medical trip to Malaysia on Sunday, decides to sign onto opposition Jumhooree Party.
Nazim announced his decision to the press at Velana International Airport upon his return on Sunday night.
Jumhooree Party leader and Parliament Speaker Qasim Ibrahim stated that Nazim joining the party will bring a huge success to the party and that this decision gives him immense joy. Qasim further noted that many senior figures are seen joining the party and that this will bring success to the party.
Highlighting that the party works for the progression of the people, Qasim said that this is not done for the wealth of particular persons and that every citizen deserves progression.
While Nazim has announced his decision to sign onto JP, his brother and former Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO), Adam Azim also signed onto JP in June this year. Azim was also appointed as a special advisor to party leader Qasim Ibrahim.
After spending some time away for medical treatment in Malaysia, the former Defense Minister returned to Maldives on Sunday night.
The Supreme Court had also suspended his prison conviction in early October.
The Criminal Court sentenced Nazim to 11 years in prison on a weapon smuggling charge in March 2015 after police found a pistol in his apartment.
