Construction has started on the Gaaf Dhaal Atoll Gadhdhoo island sewage system, with Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim inaugurating the project.
The project contracted to the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) is worth MVR931,000 funded by the government and the OPEC Fund for International Development.
A sewage system of 8 kilometers will be built in Gadhdhoo as part of this project, and a sewage treatment plant weighing over 410 tonnes will be placed in the island.
Environment ministry said that the sewage system will be connected to 708 households by the time the project is completed.
The project was contracted to MWSC towards the middle of last year.
