MDP puts forth complaint of ruling party activists being appointed election officials

The Maldivian Democratic Party has put forth a complaint over 123 known pro-government activists being appointed officials for the upcoming presidential elections.
In an interview with Raajje Television while in Dhiddhoo island of Haa Alif atoll, party chairperson Hassan Latheef said that officials appointed by the Elections Commission should no longer be able to attend political rallies.
Further, while the commission’s procedures dictate that officials must not be signed on with any political party, Latheef called on the commission to enforce this in regards to officials reportedly aligned with the ruling party.
Opposition aligned lawmaker Rozaina Adam had also previously alleged that some of the officials have been seen speaking at rallies held by the Progressive Party of Maldives and seen at their ‘door-to-door’ canvassing events.
While the party has brought the matter to light, it is yet unclear if they have officially filed a complaint.
