A dog from the “Faara Gema” (Dog Squad of MPS)، should be sent to the former President Mohamed Nasheed، who is sentenced to 13 years in prison on terrorism charges، indicated Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla، in his twitter statement last night.
“A guard [dog] should be sent to check the intoxication level of a person who encourages to drink [alcohol]،” MP Abdul Raheem’s tweet said.
Although Abdul Raheem stated، “Faara”، or a guard in the tweet، it is believed to have been implied to a dog، as in the name of the Police’s dog squad، “Faara Gema”.
Abdul Raheem، who is also the deputy leader of ruling party PPM، indirectly mentioned ex-President Nasheed in his tweet for Nasheed’s controversial statement in 2011 on saving the youth from drugs and alcoholism.
A video got leaked of ex-President Nasheed saying and encouraging to consume alcohol or use narcotics، to save the youth from being victims of narcotics and alcoholism. However، the intent of his statement is till date argued between his supporters and who oppose him.
Meanwhile، sixteen trained K9 units have been brought to Maldives to assist Police during counter-narcotic operations. The authority had begun their operations with the aid of dogs. The first operation was a ‘successful kick-off’، as Police seized Rf. 600،000 worth illicit narcotic substances from a residence in Male’ city.
