Trial hearing of Afiya Mohamed، Light House، V. Rakeedhoo -who is suspected of brutally killing her three year old son، Mohamed Ibthihal – has been rescheduled.
According to reports the criminal court hearing of today’s trial scheduled at 13:00hrs، was cancelled in order to provide sufficient time for the defendant’s lawyers to prepare for the hearing.
State is prosecuting Afiya for the murder of a child and for the disobedience of order.
The prosecuting lawyer، had stated that Afiya attempted to suffocate Ibthihal by squeezing his windpipe، with other physical assaults that had resulted in the death of the 3 year old victim on 28th January around 12:00hrs.
In addition to this، state lawyer had added that the disobedience of order charges were pressed against Afiya for her continued physical harassment on Ibthihal.
Afiya is pressed with disobedience of order charges through the Child Rights Act Articles 16 and 18 as well as through the Maldivian Penal Code’s Article 88، section (b).
Afiya has confessed for the physical abuse of Mohamed Ibthihal، and admitted that she had not been forced by anyone، but exercised the actions under her own free will.
