The former president and the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed had stated that ‘it will be better if the court order a sentence on him tonight’.
Nasheed made his statement during the hearing tonight held at the Criminal Court before the State Lawyers presented the documentary evidence against Nasheed.
The defendant Nasheed stated that if the lawyers are to present the documentary evidence، then the court should issue a verdict tonight.
The presiding Judge responded to Nasheed’s statement saying that the President Nasheed cannot instruct the court proceedings.
“I am concerned that the trial is going too quickly in a hassle،” Nasheed said.
The presiding bench had later resolved to take the documentary evidence during the hearing tabled for tomorrow، and told Nasheed they will try to give him the opportunity to view the documentary evidences against him.
The Criminal Court had tabled a hearing of Nasheed’s case on Sunday.
