RTL ferry service launched in Baa Atoll, completing Zone 2 connectivity

The government has officially launched RTL ferry services in Baa Atoll, fulfilling a pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to expand affordable and accessible transportation across the country.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, the RTL network will now connect all 13 inhabited islands in Baa Atoll. As part of efforts to familiarize residents with the new service, free ferry trips will be provided from Monday, July 29, until August 3. Regular paid services will begin on August 4, with ticket bookings available through the RTL website and mobile app starting August 1.
The launch of services in Baa Atoll marks the completion of RTL connectivity in Zone 2, which also includes Lhaviyani and Noonu Atolls. The Ministry has stated that work is ongoing to expand the service to all four atolls within Zone 2.
The RTL (Raajje Transport Link) service is being implemented by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) under a broader national plan to develop an integrated public transport network. The project divides the country into three phases and six geographic zones.
With this launch, RTL services are now operational in 11 atolls nationwide. The primary goal of the initiative is to ensure safe, affordable, and comfortable transport across the Maldives, while enhancing economic and social connectivity between islands.
