Over 98 percent of tourism facilities operational amid surge in visitors

According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism and the Environment, 98.4 percent of the registered tourism facilities in the Maldives are currently operational.
The Ministry highlighted this as a significant indicator of the continuous growth and progress within the country's tourism sector.
The data reveals that there are currently 68,095 registered beds for tourist accommodation in the Maldives. Out of these, 67,009 beds are actively being utilised to provide services to visitors.
The operational facilities currently include 179 resorts, 911 guesthouses, 169 safari vessels, and 16 hotels.
Resorts account for the largest share of accommodation capacity, with 44,807 beds. Guesthouses provide 16,171 beds, while safari vessels and hotels offer 3,433 and 2,598 beds, respectively.
While the number of tourists facilities operationalised has increased, this rise has been correlated with an increase in the number of tourists arrivals to the country. In this regard, 312,343 tourists have visited Maldives in 2026. This is a 5.6 percent increase compared to the 295,762 tourists that visited during the same period last year. Most notably, a record number of tourists arrived in Maldives on 8 February, with a total of 10,462 arrivals recorded.
The government aims to bring 2.5 million tourists this year. This is 300,000 more than the total number of visitors in 2025, which stood at 2.2 million arrivals.
