Redevelopment of road from Presidential Jetty to Henveiru Ferry Terminal to commence in Ramadan

The redevelopment of the stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu from the Presidential Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal will commence in Ramadan, according to Ahmed Saudee, the managing director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
He made the remark while speaking to reporters on Sunday during a tree planting event held to mark the reopening of the newly redeveloped stretch of the road where the market district is located.
The Boduthakurufaanu Magu, the ring road around Male’ City, is being redeveloped with asphalt in segments. The next stretch of road that will be developed under the project will be the area from the Presidential Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal.
Saudee said the redevelopment of the segment will begin during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
He added that if things go according to schedule, the entire Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be done by the end of April or May.
Speaking to reporters, Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib said the redevelopment of the heavily congested Local Market and North Harbor area will provide ease in the flow of cargo in the area.
Muthalib noted that the project also involves the installation of a smart stormwater drain system.
He said the installation will take time, but once done, both water and sanitation will be upgraded.
“This area is being developed with the aim of maximizing the convenience of the people who seek services,” he said.
The MTCC began work on expanding and redeveloping the Boduthakurufaanu Magu to accommodate four lanes on August 22, 2025.
