Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that anyone with evidence of corruption against the party in relation to its parliamentary campaign should come forward.
In a press statement on Sunday, MDP deputy secretary general Afshan Latheef said that they are confident that there is no such case of corruption but that they encourage accusers to file their complaint at the Elections Commission (EC).
Refuting claims that the President is using state funds for his MDP campaign trip, Afshan said that his trip is completely funded by MDP and that he is joining their events as a party member.
She said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is joining the events to urge people to vote for MDP candidates since the government can more efficiently fulfill their pledges if the main ruling party has parliament majority.
She also said that MDP assigned a speedboat for him but that he began using the presidential speedboat due to the insistence of the military over security concerns.
MDP will be holding a panel discussion at 9:30pm on its income tax agenda. The panelists include Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb, Dhaandhoo MP Yaqoob Abdulla, and the President’s Office policy undersecretary Husam Shareef.
