New party MLSDP to contest in parliament election

Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party (MLSDP) has announced that it will be contesting in the parliament election.
This was confirmed by Mauroof Zakariya, a leading member of the party, in his interview on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee programme on Thursday night.
Mauroof said that some of their members have shown interesting in contesting in the parliament election and that they aim to pick the best candidate. He said that they will discuss picking the candidate after registering the party.
Noting that many labour associations have expressed their support of the party, Mauroof said the party aims to uphold the rights of workers while running according to the will of the workers.
Prominent lawyer Abdulla Haseen was given permission to establish Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party in August and he has recently given 3,000 membership applications to the Elections Commission, which is required to register the party.
