Home Minister Umar Naseer has refuted the rumors of former President Mohamed Nasheed kept in a cell with three other inmates.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of training given to “Faara Gema” squad، Minister stated that former President Nasheed is kept in an apartment jail in Kaaf Himmafushi.
“There are rumors that three people are kept in a cell with President Nasheed. That is a lie. President Nasheed and three other inmates are kept in a luxurious apartment” stated Minister Umar.
Minister stated that the apartment comprise of a room more than 30 ft 20 ft، a huge dining area and kitchen، Sitting room and a laundry.
Minister Umar has stated that President Nasheed is under the custody of Correctional services and confirmed that he has been transferred to Asseyri Prison، Himmafushi. He furtehr stated that the three inmates were changed to the apartment after consulting the Minister، himself.
Furthermore، Minister asserted that no individual will be given punishment illegally and the senior citizens who are in custody will be treated with respect.
Meanwhile، President Nasheed’s defense attorneys have stated that President Nasheed is kept in a cell in Asseyri Prison with former defense Minister Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu and former Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim.
Former President Nasheed has been jailed for 13 years for illegally detaining and isolating Abdulla Gaazee in 2012.
