The court has remanded a foreigner accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl in a southern island to remain in police custody pending outcome of trial.
The assault was reported on June 24, following which a 33-year-old Bangladeshi national was arrested the next day, according to the South Police Division.
On June 27, the foreigner was brought before the court for a remand hearing in which the court had decided to remand the person to custody pending the outcome of the trial.
As the case involves a minor, the police have limited the number of details disclosed to the media and the public in order to protect the dignity and identity of the child.
