The leader of Jumhooree Party (JP)، Qasim Ibrahim، has stated that he has no comments on the 13 years jail sentence on former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Former President Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison، last month، on terrorism charges for kidnapping the Criminal Court Chief Justice Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed in 2012.
Qasim had refrained from commenting on the sentence issued on Nasheed.
In an exclusive interview on VTV today، Qasim had stated that he had then، in 2012، called on President Nasheed to obey the laws، to resign from his post or to release Judge Abdulla. Qasim had highlighted that Nasheed chose to resign.
“I have no comment، the Judiciary had resolved the verdict. Appeal process will proceed following the verdict. That is not my concern،” Qasim said.
Prior to the arrest، trial and the verdict of Nasheed، JP Leader Qasim had formed an alliance with opposition MDP. However، Qasim had personally stayed out of the opposition’s events.
