A youth who went swimming with friends in the jetty area of Fuvahmulah City has died through drowning this morning.
As reported in Mihaaru News, the victim is 23 year old Nazeel Ibrahim from Funaadu Ward of Fuvahmulah.
It is reported that friends accompanying him made efforts to rescue him upon realizing he was drowning, but was unable to save him in time.
Friends also tried to recover him through CPR, but they were unsuccessful, an eyewitness said.
He was then transferred to the Fuvahmulah Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He was taken to the hospital at 07:30 hrs this morning.
Police have also confirmed that the youth was dead on arrival at the hospital.
