Nasheed’s jail apartment to be completed in 7 days – Umar

The special detention facility being built in Maafushi for former President Nasheed to serve the jail sentence، will be completed within 7-10 days، says the Home Minister Umar Naseer.
Speaking in “Rajje Miadhu” program of TVM، he stated that the construction of the facility is ongoing and he has directed to finish the work in 7 days.
“I personally went there 2 days back to check on the progress of the work and asked to complete the work within 7 days” stated the Minister.
Umar highlighted that the area where facility is being built، previously comprised of cells. He also stated that the jail apartment is built after demolishing the place therefore taking time to build the facility.
“We hope to finish the work in 7-10 days” affirmed the Minister.
The special detention apartment built for Nasheed includes a furnished sitting room and a room where amenities like AC، TV، and VCD Players will be provided.
Furthermore، a garden of 1087 sq. ft will be attached with the jail apartment of Nasheed.
The presiding bench of 3 judges took the decision of 13 years of Jail due to the charges pressed against Nasheed for illegally detaining and isolating the chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Gaazee، was proven in relation to the documentary evidence and letters presented against Nasheed.
The legal team of Nasheed had stated that once they have received the summary of how the trial was concluded، they will appeal in the high court.
Nasheed has been proven guilty under Article 2(b) of the Terrorism Penal Code and has been sentenced under Article 6(b) of the same Code.
