Last round of talks regarding the China-Maldives free trade agreement is to be held in Hong Kong at the end of this month. China is the biggest economic partner of Maldives.
The discussion between the two countries will be held from 26th September to 28th September. It is expected that this will be the last round of official talks between China and Maldives regarding the free trade agreement.
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that both the countries want the discussions to end soon and to be able to benefit from the agreement as soon as possible. He said that the government hopes to sign the agreement before the end of this year.
In addition to China, Hong Kong have also expressed interest in signing a free trade agreement with Maldives. FRecently q delegation from Hong Kong visited Maldives to hold discussions on the matter.
So it is expected that in the sidelines of the meeting in Hong Kong, the government will also discuss about the Hong Kong-Maldives agreement as well.
