Relationship between India and Maldives has not changed: Nasheed

Former president Mohamed Nasheed has said that the long standing relationship between Maldives and India has not changed.
In answer to a question by Sun at a news conference held at Dharubaaruge today, Nasheed said even though the relationship between the two countries has not changed, there are matters in which the two countries cannot come to an agreement and that he believes that the two countries can come to a consensus on on such matters.
“I believe that the relationship between the Indian Government and the Maldivian Government exist to the same level as before. In this relationship, there will be instances where both sides are unable to come to an agreement. I believe that these matters can be agreed upon, settled smoothly, both governments can come to an agreement,” said Nasheed.
When asked regarding the charges taken up against him for the illegal detention of Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Mohamed, Nasheed chose to ignore the question and say that he now wants to work towards the upcoming presidential elections and said that he will focus on increasing the pace of his campaign.
Nasheed said that all political parties in the Maldives will be able to compete in the upcoming presidential elections and that he will lead his Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to victory in the upcoming elections. He said that MDP national council has decided that the party will not participate in an election in which Nasheed himself cannot compete.
