MP Raheem leaves PPM, seeks to form new party

Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla has resigned from the Progressive Party of Maldives, in which he was deputy leader, and applied to form a new party.
Raheem had applied to form a party under the name of People’s National Congress on Sunday, but the application was rejected due to him being signed on with another party.
The parliamentarian has since left the former ruling party and applied again.
The commission said on Monday that they have received applications to form a party by the name of ‘People’s National Congress’, which was filed on Sunday.
Reports of Yameen attempting to form a new political party surfaced last week, as a case contesting his leadership of the Progressive Party of Maldives is being heard before the Supreme Court.
